What is linguistics
Linguistics is the
scientific study of languange.
The main
goal of linguistics , like all other intellectual disciplines,is to increase
our knowledge and understanding of the word . since language is universal and
fundamental to all human interactions. The knowledge attained in linguistics
has many practical applications , linguistics, with some training in other
appropriate disciplines.
TheSub –Field of Linguistics
Language
is a phenomenon with many layers,from the sounds that those sound express. The
field of linguistics is composed of sub-fields,and most professional
linguistics become specialists in one or more of these sub-fields. The major
ones are.
1.
Phonetics:
The study of speech sounds themselves.
Phonetics study both the production of speech sounds. By the human speech
organs(articulatory phonetics) and the properties of the souds themselves
(acoustic phonetics).
2.
Phonology
:
The
study of the organization of language sounds. Phonology are concerned with
questions such as: what sounds contras in one language but not another (
answers to such question explain why Spanish speakers have trouble with the
difference between with the different”U” sounds in French words like rue’street’and
roué ‘wheel’..
3.
Morphology:
The study of wod structure . morphology
examine such questions as : to what extent are ways of forming word”productive”
or not “ (e.g
